Salary: £59,701 per annum (with incremental progression steps to a current maxima of £71,285)

Working Pattern: Full time (35 hours)

Job Description: We are looking for a Negotiations Officer to join our Scotland and Ireland team. The role will have a focus on one or more of our Sector’s but this will be determined after appointment and through an allocation process. In this role, you will have responsibility for delivering our strategic relationships in the appropriate sector (s) with branches, employers and government. You will be required to deliver positive negotiated outcomes across a range of employers, and to deliver on individual casework for members in both recognised and non recognised areas. The successful candidate will need to be able to build and maintain effective branch relationships and structures, and with other key stakeholders such as politicians , STUC and other Unions. The ideal candidate will have a strong experience and understanding issue based organising, collective labour law, contemporary industrial relations, Scotland’s devolution settlement and a passion for working for a Trade Union.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual and collective representation, including triage and individual case work.
  • Collective negotiations
  • Develop branch capabilities for organisation and recruitment and to work on specific issues-based and general recruitment campaigns.
  • Deliver training programmes for representatives.
  • Delivery of sector strategic outcomes
  • Stakeholder engagement across the business, political and trade union environment

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of employment law, holding an employment law qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Experience in and comfortable demonstrating leadership and taking ownership in a calm and professional manner in difficult circumstances.
  • Previous experience developing branch capabilities for organisation, driving successful campaigns and providing support and advocacy for members.
  • Demonstrate strong planning, organising, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of/background in the trade union movement.
  • Good knowledge of pensions and health and safety.
  • Good knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams/MS Project (or equivalent).
  • Project management experience
  • Valid UK driving licence.
