Salary: £50,000 (with £3,160 Inner London Weighting if based in London Office)

Job Description: We are looking for a Development Officer to join our National Organising Unit (NOU). In this role, you will be responsible for designing, delivering and organising learning and development programmes for Prospect staff in negotiating teams, with a focus on the skills and competencies needed in all member-facing roles. You will also develop and deliver training for Prospect workplace representatives with a focus on organising and campaigning skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong and effective communication style and experience devising and delivering effective training for trade union representatives.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead, design and embed staff learning and development initiatives for staff in negotiating teams, ensuring staff maintain and develop high level competencies in industrial relations and member-facing activity (including bargaining, campaigning and organising).
  • Devise and deliver training to branch officers and representatives with a focus on greenfield organising skills and tools.
  • Work with internal stake holders to ensure operational staff have the digital skills and tools to effectively recruit, organise and support members. As well as, working with relevant colleagues on a staff skills analysis and audit, identify gaps by benchmarking with other relevant organisations.
  • Research and cascade best practice on the development and implementation of digital organising tools and systems.
  • Liaise with external providers in order to ensure the ongoing development of high quality organising training
  • Lead or provide project management support to NOU projects

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • Experience of planning, co-ordinating and delivering successful staff learning and development initiatives within the trade union movement or third sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of employment law, in particular the legislative framework relevant to recognition and trade union rights.
  • Knowledge and understanding of, and a commitment to, the trade union movement.
  • Knowledge and experience of project planning and project management
  • Strong organising, mapping, analytical, research and problem-solving skills 
  • Knowledge of pensions and health and safety.
  • Good knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
  • Experience of managing external contracts and supplier relationships 
  • Good IT/communications skills.
