Job Description: We are looking for a Senior Political Officer to join our Communications team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and champions Prospect’s public affairs and parliamentary activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong experience in developing strategies to influence policy development and legislation and a passion for working for a Trade Union.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work alongside relevant Senior Management Team (SMT) members, officers and branches to pro-actively identify opportunities to influence policy, legislation, the work of Parliament and devolved institutions in relation to our work.
  • Provide high level and strategic advice to members of the SMT on Prospect’s political and public affairs work.
  • Leads on identifying political influencing targets and developing strategies for building constructive relationships.
  • Develop, plan and co-ordinate the broader campaign objectives of Prospect, particularly as they relate to political influencing.
  • Evaluate the success of Prospect’s influencing strategy and put in place strategies to constantly improve it.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • Prior experience working in a parliamentary or public affairs role.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK politics and current affairs.  
  • Knowledge of the UK legislative process and parliamentary procedure

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • A strong network of political contacts
  • Good understanding of devolved government in the UK.
  • Experience of line management
