Negotiator and case worker (Negotiations Executive)          

Based – Prospect Cardiff office, but with work spread across the Southwest and Wales areas.

Contract – Full Time (35 hours per week) - Permanent

Starting Salary - £48,077

The Role

Do you want to make the world of work better for everyone through promoting membership and the values of the trade union movement?

Prospect is looking for an enthusiastic individual to work as part of our Southwest and Wales regional team providing representation, support and advice to union members and branches to meet their needs and ensure successful outcomes.

Prospect’s membership is diverse and covers a range of industries such as Environment, Heritage, Defence, Energy, and Education, in both the private and public sector (including UK and Welsh Government public and civil servants).

The postholder will be responsible for undertaking personal casework and supporting collective representation and bargaining for workplace branches and regional members.

In addition, the postholder will be responsible for developing branch capability and for campaigning.

You will need to:

  • Act calmly and professionally in negotiations to meet members’ needs.
  • Deal effectively with personal casework supporting and advising members.
  • Demonstrate leadership and be prepared to take ownership when dealing with difficulties such as when negotiating with employers and providing advocacy.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, reps, members, and employers.
  • Have strong planning, organising, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Manage personal autonomy whilst working across boundaries to sustain relationships with employers, groups of members and colleagues.
  • Be committed to working in social partnership with employers.
  • Be willing to travel (including occasional overnight stays) and have a current driving license.
  • Be aware of the use of Welsh language policy and its use in some workplaces.

Desirable

  • Be able to speak/understand Welsh or willing to learn.

Where this role fits in

This role is part of the Southwest and Wales team with offices in Bristol and Cardiff, but with some travel outside of the region and with occasional requirement for overnight stays.

You will be working with other colleagues in the Southwest and Wales team, with our volunteer representatives and with support from our research, legal and communications teams.
