We are now looking for a Senior Solicitor to provide specialist advice on employment and trade union law and to provide representation in employment tribunal cases.  The role is based in our London office and is part of our Legal Department. The successful candidate will report to the General Counsel and Head of Legal, including deputising for the General Counsel and Head of Legal during periods of leave and absence, and will manage and develop a Legal Advisor.  They will advise officers, representatives and the wider membership on complex legal issues, relating to individual and collective employment law and trade union law, including claims and complaints to the Certification Office; run employment tribunal cases; contribute to policy development and develop and deliver training.

Essential

  • Qualified solicitor with at least 5 years’ post qualification experience.
  • Specialist knowledge of employment and trade union law and an ability to manage and advise on complex case work.
  • Experience of handling Employment Tribunal cases.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience and ability to take ownership when dealing with difficulties.
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate legal information and disseminate accordingly.
  • Experience of working proactively, self-managing time and workload.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, representatives, members, employers, and wider stakeholders.
  • Have strong planning, organising, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Wants to make the world of work better for everyone through promoting membership and the values of the trade union movement.

Desirable

  • Good IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office/365 suite, Outlook and Teams
  • Line management experience
