We are now looking for an Assistant Secretary to lead negotiations, drive campaigning and support policy development. The successful candidate will be part of the union’s Information Technology and Telecoms (IT&T) Sector. They will also have lead responsibility for developing and growing the union’s Tech Workers branch and should have a strong focus and good organising experience.

The role is based in our London office and is part of our IT&T team. The successful candidate will report to a National Secretary and will manage staff to ensure they provide effective support and advice to members and branches. It involves delivering individual and collective representation; helping tutor and develop branch elected representatives; building and maintaining effective and resilient branch structures; and contributing to our IT&T sector campaigning and networking activities.

Subject to Prospect’s car policy, you may be eligible for a company car.

Essential

  • Highly developed negotiating skills
  • Ability to manage and advise on complex case work at levels up to Employment Tribunal in conjunction with Prospect’s legal team.
  • Demonstratable leadership experience and ability to take ownership when dealing with difficulties. The ability to manage staff and ensure they are developed and meet their objectives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, representatives, members, employers, and wider stakeholders.
  • Have strong planning, organising, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of pensions, health and safety, EDI and employment taw.
  • Want to make the world of work better for everyone through promoting membership and the values of the trade union movement.
  • Experience of working proactively, self-managing time and workload.
  • Valid UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Good IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office/365 suite, Outlook and Teams
  • Project management and/or campaigning experience
