The Role of Banking and Investment Officer

Reporting to the Head of Finance the main purpose of the role is to administer and maintain the union’s investment portfolio and multiple bank accounts including corresponding cashbooks reconciliations and cashflow forecast.

This role requires a candidate to have sound double entry bookkeeping knowledge, have a good understanding of banking procedures, investment portfolio monitoring and relevant accounting legislation.

Responsibilities:

  • Reconciliation of a large number of bank accounts including processing on Sage and the banking software
  • Opening accounts/closing accounts/mandate updates including DD set up
  • Main contact for Unity Trust bank on all daily transactions on all bank accounts
  • Daily/weekly limits checking
  • Processing Unity Trust payments on Unity online
  • Monitoring savings accounts and ensuring best interest rate achieved on cash deposits
  • Weekly/monthly/quarterly cashflow preparation, analysis and monitoring including year-end processes
  • Credit Card applications processing and management of credit cards
  • Investment portfolio management including reconciliation, monitoring of the performance and production on reports
  • Processing and reconciliation of various funds including accrual preparation
  • Nominal ledger codes analysis and reconciliation
  • Benevolent fund administration and preparation of reports
  • Ad hock duties as required during busy periods and holiday cover.

Person Specification:

  • Qualified AAT or part qualified ACA or ACCA as a minimum
  • Manages and prioritises time and tasks effectively, identifying steps needed to ensure accurate processing
  • Good follow-up skills, seeing things through to completion
  • Takes initiative and acts with confidence
  • Communicates and explains information, both written and oral, in an uncomplicated way and showing tact
  • Solid experience in finance banking procedures and relevant legislation
  • Exposure to administration and management of investment portfolio
  • Proficiency in Excel (Pivot Tables/VLOOKUPs, graphs as a minimum)
  • Able to work in a team with a can-do attitude
  • Enthusiastic and motivated in developing own knowledge and skills
  • Previous experience working with large volume of bank accounts
  • Sound knowledge of the finance processes and procedures to allow for team cover when needed
